THE BIRD'S HABITAT

Each species of bird clings to a habitat, to an environment where its life develops in the best possible conditions. Outside the breeding season a bird can enter other environments, but in the period in which it incubates and breeds, relationships with the environment become more important since their activities must be deployed within a small and optimum space from the point of view of their requirements. That is why there are large concentrations in places with unusual characteristics such as bathed, reed, coasts, Sotos, etc. In the light of ecological studies it is accepted as a rule that all animals are linked to a certain habitat because the physical and chemical conditions, as well as the associated plants and fauna are necessary for them to exist and reproduce successfully. There are those who deny that in many cases the choice of habitat is only related to the limit of survival or nesting, proving, on the contrary, the primacy of factors disconnected for such purposes. Some birds adopt habitat by mere whim and not by any other more logical cause. Adult birds without a nest and the same birds with nests face very different survival problems. The former can walk erratically and nomads on their own free will; the seconds must be kept within a radius where they must find sustenance and tranquility. Now we consider the problems of the adult birds and the young we have that the first can avoid dangers and scarcity. The pigeons do not. Although they are nidripes their defenses are always limited. Hence the prosperity of a species is closely related to the places it chooses to raise. The poor choice of nesting habitat breaks the balance as deeply as unforeseen modifications. It is that in nature everything is intimately related. Its marvelous harmony is a perfect fit of the parts in a vital chain whose alteration causes the most distant and unforeseen ecological catastrophes. That is why we must continue to take care of the habitat we have left and encouraging the creation of new habitat with the repopulation of flora and fauna that once knew to be in those places. In this way we will contribute to having the possibility to continue listening to birds singing and why not ... the audible screech of a pigeon.
